I’ve seen your face before.
Neither once upon a dream,
nor on a movie screen.
But we met in the world outside
beyond my locked door.
I said hello, and so did you
Just as so many people do.
You smiled at me and I could see
What a beautiful pair we’d be.
And in my head a movie played
Of you and I in later days.
Doing things that people do
When opened like flowers in bloom.
But I didn’t say a thing.
No songs were sung and no bells did ring.
I cut my hair and left. I’d been in port to long.
I had no time for pretty faces.
Distant places beckoned me and my dreams
To wander on the sea.
So I set sail and now my tale
Continued on for God knows how long
And in a land of wild beasts
I forgot the face of the one I’d meet
again much later on.
Hence I returned from my travels
And to my dear friend I did unravel
Countless stories of my exploits.
Of witches' spells and maidens fair
Who fell to me most unprepared.
But I was caught most unaware
When your eyes back at me stared.
And so here we are.
Alone in a parking lot.
Saying everything we thought the other didn’t know.
Unafraid to pour ourselves out for everyone to see.
(And by everyone I mean you and me.)
Something I denied,
began to stir inside
I couldn’t keep myself from you,
despite how hard I tried.
I lost myself inside your eyes
and dropped the mask I hid behind.
And like lightening, you pulled bliss from my lips
While I traced you with my fingertips.
Every second was a hundred years
And with each century came a fear
That all these lifetimes were but dreams
And we were not who we seemed.
But I promise you, and swear it truth,
You’re one who I adore.
And I won’t rest these ageless nights til we’ve had
Ten thousand more.
I’ve seen your face before.
